NanoWater manufactures Ultraviolet units with the finest 316 Stainless Steel, Electro polished internally as well as externally for years of corrosion free service. The system allows water to come in contact with Ultra Violet rays having 30,000 micro watts second/cm2 UV dosage & 2537 Angstrom (254 nm) units wavelength. The silica quartz jacket provides 100% efficiency due to its pure crystal-clear transparency as compared to the Teflon tubes which has only 25% transparency.
NanoWater offers a complete range of Ultra Violet Units, for drinking and process water applications with outputs ranging from 100 LPH up to 1,00,000 LPH
HOW DOES UV STERILIZER WORKS ?
Ultraviolet light deactivates the DNA of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens and destroys their ability to multiply and cause disease. Specifically, UV light causes damage to the nucleic acid of microorganisms by forming covalent bonds between certain adjacent bases in the DNA. The formation of such bonds prevents the DNA to reproduce.
Ultraviolet or UV energy is found in the electromagnetic spectrum between visible light and x-rays and can best be described as invisible radiation. In order to kill microorganisms, the UV rays must actually strike the cell. UV energy penetrates the outer cell membrane, passes through the cell body and disrupts its DNA preventing reproduction. UV treatment does not alter water chemically; nothing is being added except energy.
Special low-pressure mercury vapor lamps produce ultraviolet radiation at 254 nm, the optimal wavelength for disinfection and ozone destruction. The UV lamp never contacts the water; it is either housed in a quartz glass sleeve inside the water chamber or mounted external to the water which flows through UV transparent Teflon tubes. Some ultrapure water systems use 185 nm UV units for reducing TOC (total organic carbon).

IDENTIFY UV DOSE
UV dose is a measure of the germicidal energy delivered to microbes. UV dose is typically expressed in units of millijoules per square centimeter (mJ/cm2) or joules per square meter (J/m2). The UV dose delivered to the microorganisms depends on the flowrate of water through the reactor, the number and location of the lamps within the reactor, the UV output from each lamp, the UV transmittance of the water, and the trajectories of the microbes relative to the lamps. Because different microbes follow different trajectories as they pass through a UV reactor, the dose delivery by a UV reactor is best represented by a dose distribution. Biotech Typical design UV DOSE is 50 mJ/cm2

EXTEND THE SHELF-LIFE OF THE PRODUCTS
Degradation of product quality, reduction of its lifespan, need to stop the production line for cleaning, use of chemicals, etc. The presence of biological contamination causes a number of problems, which is why disinfection surface area in the food industry is so important.
NanoWater designs and manufactures dedicated equipment to overcome the various issues outlined. These devices are especially suitable for surfaces disinfection in the food industry: treatment of products, their packaging as well as conveyor belts.
The UV disinfection process is safe and versatile, it allows a high destruction of bacteria and microorganisms that are usually found in the food industry.
The application of ultraviolet (UV) light in the food industry has held great promise for a long time. UVC light (200–280 nm) possesses excellent germicidal properties to inactivate a wide range of microbial pathogens (e.g., bacteria, fungi, yeasts, molds, and viruses). UVC technology can be used to effectively prevent foodborne illnesses while increasing the shelf life of food without compromising its quality by reducing the microbial load.
UVC radiation processing of food depends on a variety of factors such as the operational parameters of the UVC equipment, microbial characteristics, and the composition of the food.
The fundamentals of using UVC radiation to inactivate pathogenic microbes for the decontamination of foods (e.g., fruit and vegetable juices, milk and dairy products, meat products, beef, and seafood).
NanoWater technology is based on pulsed UV light, which allows us make a considerable contribution to the issues related to food safety and food preservation. With our Pulse UV light equipment we generate intense UV light flashes for a fraction of a second on products which inactivate bacteria and spores. The flashes result in the release of an enormous amount of energy , for a fraction of a hundredth of a second, which breaks the skin protein,
causing the DNA of the undesired (decay) micro-organisms, pathogens, bacteria, yeasts, fungi and /or viruses to be broken down.
The techniques we use reduce or eliminate the need for chemical disinfectants as well as the addition of preservatives. As a result
We extend shelf life and
Improve the quality of the products.
Listeria and Salmonella bacteria are reduced by 99.85%.
reduce the number of allergens that occur naturally in foods
PULSED UV LIGHT IS A FOOD PRESERVATION METHOD
The spectrum of light for pulsed light treatment includes wavelengths in the ultraviolet (UV) to the near-infrared region.
Any material to be treated is exposed to a least 1pulse of light having an energy density in the range of about 0.01 to 50 J/cm2 at the surface. A wavelength distribution such that at least 70% of the electromagnetic energy is within the range from 170 to 2600 nm is used.
The material to be sterilized is exposed to at least 1 pulse of light (typically 1 to 20 flashes per second) with a duration range from 1 µ,s to 0.1 s. For most applications, a few flashes applied in a fraction of a second provide a high level of microbial inactivation.
ADVANTAGES OF UV TECHNOLOGY IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY
UVC Surface Disinfection system perfectly adaptable on an existing conveyor belt
Option to design a customized UVC disinfection system that can fit to different sized of existing conveyor belt
Superficial sterilization of surfaces including food (meat, fish, fruits and vegetables, baked goods …)
The combined surface treatment of the product and its packaging can significantly reduce contamination by microorganisms resulting in a greater shelf life.
All Biotech surface disinfection systems are equipped with a lamp protection to ensure no broken glass is in contact with food in case of lamp breakage.
Significant reduction of use of chemicals for disinfection.
Significant reduction of use of water.
Automatic stop system included: this prevents overexposure when stopping the conveyor.
An ultra-fast processing (a few seconds maximum) which allows not to change the production process.
Ultraviolet Processing of Mushrooms
Mushrooms exposed to UV light (UV-B or UV-C) produce vitamin D2. Mushrooms contain a compound called ergosterol that converts into vitamin D2 when exposed to UV light. This reaction occurs in all mushrooms, including white, brown, and portabella mushrooms. It occurs at slow rates when mushrooms are exposed to the sun, and the reaction time can be shortened drastically by exposing the mushrooms to high doses of high intensity UV light. In addition to converting ergosterol into vitamin D in mushrooms, UV light treatment can be used to improve the nutritional value of other plant products. Biotech has developed a UV pulse light system which can enrich the Vitamin D value to make the products more healthy and more valuable.
